Ards 7 : 33 Belfast Harlequins
Roy Lawton reports
Last Saturday, Ards looked to defy the odds when they hosted a strong
Belfast Harlequins outfit in a USL fixture at Hamilton Park.13 minutes into the game it was Quins, who got on the score sheet first. Their bigger and more experienced forwards battered their way into the Ards 22 and eventually powered over the line for the opening converted try.
Ards got their own account up and running when with superb handling and support play, Ards three quarters of Stewart Paul, Jordan Millar and Scott Young, cut a hole right through the middle of the Park for Young to score one of the best tries seen at Hamilton Park in a long time.
In the second half, Quins forward power started to take its toll on the young Ards lads as they brought on their subs and surged forward. Stewart Paul, played a pivotal role in his side'S defence putting in tackle after tackle as the home side tried to hold back the AIL Division 2 side but eventually the tide began to turn and Quins were able to score three more converted tries, without reply to win comfortably in the end.
