Dowey inspires Ards youngsters

Ulster Senior League - Banbridge 7 : 20 Ards

After last week's opening game of the new season against Ballynahinch, and arguably the best club side in Ireland at present, Ards had a more sedate meeting with their other County Down rivals, Banbridge at Rifle Park.

sustained pressure by the visitors forwards, close to the opposition 22, eventually paid off and Ards were awarded a penalty. Mark Banford dutifully converted the penalty into three points and thats how it remained up to the break.

A chip and chase favoured the ever present Paul, who hunted down the home defence and was able to collect his own ball after a kind bounce and score a well deserved try. Banford again did the honours with the conversion, and things started to look a bit rosier, in the Ards garden.

A change in the second row saw the introduction of Jonny Dawson on for David Algie, and within minutes he had the visiting support cheering as he grabbed an interception pass and ran over half the length of the pitch to score under the posts, again converted by Banford.

This was a very encouraging performance by Cois Beukess men and goes a long way to help boost moral throughout the club.
