Rugby: Trying afternoon for Ards

The gulf between AIL division one and division three sides is not as big as this score-line in this Ulster Senior League match might suggest. However the unavailability and departure of players from the Ards ranks is the biggest burden for many people in the club to contend with.

A small player base has left incumbent coach Cois Beukes, with a mountain to climb, as he works tirelessly to try and build a squad of committed players capable of competing at every level of the game.

As the game progressed, Ballynahinch moved the ball with lightening speed and outmanoeuvred the home side to run in three tries before Ards full-back Mark Banford kicked a penalty to leave the score 3-20 to the visitors at halftime.

A well organised 'Hinch were very quick on the counter attack and gradually chipped away at the Ards defence running in a further six tries without reply as the high tempo game began to take its toll on the home side.

Final score Ards 3 : 58 Ballynahinch
