Naas 13 : 16 Ards
Roy Lawton reports
It took a long time coming, but at long last Ards secured their first AIB League victory of the season. Too many times Ards could have and should have come away with the spoils, but on this occasion they did when they defeated Naas at Forenaughts on Saturday.
Young Michael Lawton sealed the victory with a 35 yard penalty in the dying minutes paving the way for wild celebrations in the Ards camp at the final whistle.
What a game, not pretty by any means but certainly full of drama at every twist and turn. At the end a very relieved Ards coach said: "Now I can have a good nights sleep for a change." He’s not the only one. Ards are to be congratulated for a very controlled performance in very tricky conditions and hopefully this will put them in good stead when they host Portadown at Hamilton Park on Saturday, in their next AIB League encounter, when all support will be very much appreciated.
