Watching Ulster University complete their pre match warm up - sent a message to the Dee supporters that the first XV were going to have their work cut out to secure two league points.

The students formidable pack looked a challenge for any club. Their powerful and impressive second row Michael Dunleavy peeled off a lineout from 15 metres to brush aside the Dee out half Paul Blewitt and score a try at the posts with outhalf Alan Whitcroft adding the points to give the students an early 7-0 lead.

Outhalf Paul Blewitt provided a telling pass for the Dee right winger Gavin Gordon to carve open the students defence and score an excellent try at the posts with centre Richard Millar adding the points to level the score. Within two minutes the students had re-established their lead.

With the students continuing to give away penalties Millar reduced the Dee deficit to 22-13 as the half time whistle sounded.

Good work by the Dee backrow with Chris Hamilton and Craig McCoy particularly prominent at the breakdown, forced the students to concede another penalty which Millar converted to reduce the students lead to 22-21.

It was a nail biting last minute for the home support when 20 year old Millar stepped up and launched his kick between the posts to the delight of the home support.
